REVEIW: The Iron Trial by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black
The Iron Trial - Cassandra Clare, Holly Black

Over all I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
This Book is about Callum Hunt a young boy chosen for the magisterium. The magisterium is an underground school for mages in training. Mages are wizard like people who have powers over the elements, fire, water, air, earth and chaos. The only problem is Call really doesn't want to be there. Is father has warned him of the dangers of the magisterium.Calls mother is dead according to his father the magisterium is to blame. Soon Callum finds his father may have been mistaken he fined powers fun and friendship. That is until he learns he may some how be connected to the Enemy, the bad mages who draw on the powers of chaos. This is a wonderful read, written my two of my favorite fantasy authors.

SPOILERS AHEAD
As I was reading this I realized I found many similarities between this and Harry Potter and The Sorcerers (Philosophers) Stone. First the Characters,we have the golden trio. Call, Tamara, and Aaron. Call, the complicated main character with no idea the amount of overwhelming power he possesses. Tamara, The smart know-it-all girl whom visibly knows the most about there world of magic. Aaron, The kindhearted best friend that will always stick up for the protagonist. Julian, the arch nemesis that is mean and jealous of Call's power so he constantly taunts him for is flaws. Master Rufus, The old powerful teacher who knows more about the protagonist them he lets on.
Sound Familiar???
Then the plot. A boy seemingly normal as you can be in a school full of wizards, finds out he posses special powers. This boy is a assisted by his very smart friend who is a girl and best friend who is easy going and kind. As the story progresses the boy finds out he may have the soul of the most horrible enemy of his new home living inside of him.
Well that's never been done before. :/

Although I did find many things about this similar to Harry Potter there were just enough differences to make it refreshing and new. I did really enjoy this book. I love Harry Potter so reading something similar as not a hardship for me.

BOOK-A-LIKE The Selection series and The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogly
The Selection - Kiera Cass The Summer I Turned Pretty - Jenny Han

Summery: The Selection series By Kiera Cass (The Selection, The Elite, The One)

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is a chance of a lifetime. It is the opportunity to escape the life handed to them in there castes. It is a chance to be pampered and dressed up in beautiful gowns. All for a chance to win the heart of the charming Prince Maxon. But for America Singer being chosen for the Selection means leaving her family and boy she loves, Aspen Leger. Then America meets the handsome Prince Maxon and begins to question every thing she knew.

(P.S. For all those who did not know, Kiera Cass just announced that there will be 2 more books! YAY!)

Summery: The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy By Jenny Han (The Summer I Turned Pretty, Its Not Summer Without You, We'll Always Have Summer)

Belly loves summer time, Swimming, tans, music, the beach, but most importantly the summer house and the Fisher boys. Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher, her mothers best friends sons. The Fisher boys have been like brothers to her all her life, but she's always had a crush on Conrad. Until the summer she turned 16 he had never payed her any attention, then everything changed. she soon realizes that not only Conrad is seeing her in different light, but so is Jeremiah. As summers go on she knows she must choose between two brothers who love her, and inevitably break one of there hearts.

There may be some slight spoilers in this next section. Nothing detrimental to the story lines, but I figured I had better give you fair warning.

BOOK-A-LIKE:

Although these two series have very different plots in general I found most of the similarity between these two in the  characters.

Both of these stories rely heavily on the main character, Belly and America. They are both teen girls, pretty, indecisive, and completely and utterly obnoxious.

First we have America Singer one of the most irritating character to have ever graced Young Adult fiction. Really this series could have been over by The Elite if America hadn't been so stubborn. She demanded that Maxon profess his love, but she swore she could never do the same until she was the only one. Although she knew Maxon couldn't send all the girls home with out knowing America loved him. It was SO frustrating

Then we have Isabel "Belly" Conklin. Who is almost as annoying as said America. Her situation is very similar, but not quite the same. I honestly believe Belly was kinda bipolar. She could say how in love she was in one moment and telling them to go to hell in the next. Not only that but she insisted she knew what was best for herself and others all the time. Even when she so obviously did not.

CONCLUSION

I know the way I described these two characters made it sound like I hated these two books. In all honesty I loved these books I flew through them. I read all the books in both of these series in less than a day. I do still find these to be the most obnoxious protagonists, possibly of all time (at least in my head).
